Cultural Studies Doctoral Study Program FIB Unud and Cultural Studies Doctoral Study Program FIB UNS Surakarta Held Cultural Studies Seminar Series-1

The Cultural Studies Doctoral Study Program FIB Unud and FIB UNS Surakarta held joint online seminar series as the realization of academic collaboration, Friday, March 15 2024. This seminar series, which will be held regularly, is labeled "Cultural Narrative: National Cultural Studies Student Seminar Series -1”.

 

 96 participants attended the seminar and 80 participant stayed until the last season, it indicated the seminar provided the interesting materials.


The seminar was opened by the Chair of the Indonesian Cultural Studies Association (AKBI), Dr. Yuliawan Kasmahidayat, M.Si., who works as a lecturer at UPI Bandung. In his speech, Dr. Yuliawan appreciates this cultural studies activity, and hopes that it can continue to advance the science of cultural studies.


"We also hope that students will immediately join AKBI when they have finished their study at Cultural Studies Program," said Dr. Yuliawan, the first Chairman of AKBI, following the formation of AKBI in Bali in October 2023.


Before the event started, FIB UNS Surakarta and FIB Unud gave an introduction. UNS Cultural Studies Doctoral Study Program Coordinator, Dra. S.K. Habsari, M. Hum., Ph.D. delivering this webinar is a realization of the academic cooperation agreement drafted at the end of November 2023.


“This is a good event as a space for students to exchange ideas about their research. "Hopefully the event will continue and become an opportunity for lecturers and alumni members of AKBI to share in advancing the study of Cultural Studies in Indonesia," said Habsari, M. Hum., Ph.D.


The hope for the continuation of this student webinar was also conveyed by the Faculty of Humanities, Cultural Studies Doctoral Study Program, Unud FIB. Coordinator of Prof. Darma Putra said that the "Cultural Narrative" webinar was a new milestone in Cultural Studies academic activities.


"Previously, FIB Unud students sometimes went on study tours to UGM or other universities. "Now we can exchange ideas online, although in the future it is possible that UNS Solo and FIB Unud Cultural Studies students and lecturers will be able to visit each other directly," said Prof. Dharma.


The webinar 'Cultural Narrative Series 1' featured two speakers, one each from FIB Unud and FIB UNS Surakarta. From UNS Surakarta appeared Dr. Yusana Sasanti Dadtun, who brought the paper "Pangunci Subculture: Analysis of the Reality of Ciu Drinkers in Surakarta".


Yusana is a PhD student in Cultural Studies at FIB UNS Surakarta who has just completed her studies, with a background in history.


From FIB Unud, Wayan Nuriarta appeared with the paper "Articulation of Indonesian Identity in the Mahabharata Wayang Comics".


Wayan Nuriarta is listed as a Doctoral Student in Cultural Studies, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University. He is also a lecturer at the Department of Visual Communication Design-Faculty of Fine Arts and Design-Indonesian Arts Institute Denpasar, teaching Illustration courses (cartoons and comics).


Nuriarta completed a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts Education at the Ganesha University of Education-Bali campus in 2009, and a Master of Arts Degree in Visual Communication Design Studies at the ISI Yogyakarta Postgraduate campus in 2011.


The discussion was filled with many direct questions or those written in the chat column. The questioner's impression, among other things, is that the discussion is an interesting analytical perspective related to the articulation of the Mahabharata story from three comic artists.

Another participant, Gede Yoga Kharisma, lecturer at a private university, asked why we understand the meaning of the identity of important figures for the future of cultural studies in Indonesia?
