English Literature Study Program Student Association Faculty of Humanities Unud held the Competition and Charity of the English Department (CCED) with the theme "The Role of Indonesian Youth in Preserving Local Heritage for Cultural Sustainability" on 11 and 15 May 2024. This event is a work program from student association which focuses on competition and donations. This year there are three categories being contested, such as storytelling, speech contest and MC contest as well as donations that will be distributed to SD Negeri Kemenuh Gianyar. The opening event was held on May 11, starting with the opening by the Dean of FIB Unud I Nyoman Aryawibawa, S.S., M.A., Ph.D. at the Ida Bagus Mantra auditorium on FIB campus Jl. Nias Island, Denpasar. In his speech, the dean expressed his appreciation to student association and the supervisor of the association for holding this event.
This event was attended by 60 participants from all high schools in Bali who competed in the storytelling and speech contest and 7 students from university representatives in Bali. The theme "The Role of Indonesian Youth in Preserving Local Heritage for Cultural Sustainability" was taken so that Indonesia's young generation can play a role in maintaining cultural sustainability, thus local heritage can be preserved and passed on to future generations.
The competition assessment criteria in this event are how to communicate local cultural heritage using English. For the Story Telling competition, stories have been prepared by the committee from five popular Balinese folk tales, namely The Legend of Calon Arang, The Legend of Roro Jonggrang, Garuda Wisnu Kencana, The Legend of Kebo Iwa, The Story of Manik Angkeran and Besukih Dragon. According to the supervisor of HMPS English Literature Study Program, Gek Wulan Novi Utami, S.S., M.Hum. This event is an opportunity to hone your storytelling skills so you can develop your potential in an effort to preserve and maintain Indonesian culture. "By participating in this activity, the young generation can play a role in developing and preserving Balinese culture," concluded Gek Wulan. (Ben & Riken)
