Lecturer of Iqra Buru University Succeeded in Obtaining A Doctorate Degree in Linguistics Doctoral Program Faculty Of Humanities Udayana University
Lecturer of Iqra Buru University, Maluku, succeeded in obtaining a doctorate degree in the Linguistics Doctoral Program at the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University through an open exam on Wednesday, July 3 2024 in Dr. Ir. Sukarno. The student named Risman Iye, S.Pd., M.Hum. was declared to have graduated with the title of "Very Satisfactory", promovendus is the 210th doctoral graduate at the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University and the 230th doctorate in the Linguistics Program.
Promovendus presented a dissertation with the title "Humatkema Traditional Stories on Buru Island: Linguistic Cultural Studies". The dissertation attempted to analyze the form of illocutionary speech acts in performance, indexicality and participants, and to explore forms of connectedness, value and sustainability also to reveal local wisdom values. The aim of this dissertation is analyzing the types of illocutionary speech acts in the performance, indexicality, and participants in Humatkema ceremony speech in the Buru Island community. This dissertation also explored the connectedness, value and sustainability in the community's Humatkema ceremony speech Buru Island and Revealed local wisdom values in the speech of the Buru Island community's Humatkema ceremony.
This dissertation concluded that in the Humatkema ceremony, there are five types of speech acts, namely assertive, directive, expressive, commissive and declarative, each of which has its own role in the context of the traditional ceremony. Humatkema's speech performance reflects the cultural acculturation of the people of Buru Island with religious elements, showing the importance of the religious dimension in carrying out traditional and cultural traditions. The indexicality of Humatkema ceremonial speech is a linguistic sign that reveals the legacy of past cultural expressions, which are still maintained by the people of Buru Island to this day.
This dissertation found empirical and theoretical findings. The empirical findings were the new categories of speech acts such as advice, promises, greetings, explanations, and messages, which reflect the active role of the participants. Second, social, family and cultural connectedness; the worthiness of noble values; and the sustainability of marriage is an important highlight. Then the theoretical findings are in accordance with the reference concept of speech act theory. Likewise the theory of connectedness, value and sustainability as well as the value of local wisdom.
Prof. Dr. I Wayan Simpen, M.Hum as the promoter said that the language use were studied using speech act theory, on the other hand, elements of connectedness, value and sustainability were also examined using appropriate theory. In this way, it produces dissertation research that is different from previous cultural linguistics. The promoter also hoped that promovendus can apply everything it has learned to institutions and society. (agt)
