Lecturer of English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, received a Doctoral Degree in the Linguistics Study Program, Doctoral Program, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University through an open examination held on Friday, July 4, 2025 at the Widya Sabha Mandala Auditorium, FIB, Udayana University. The promovenda, Sang Ayu Isnu Maharani, S.S., M.Hum., is the 250th Doctor at FIB Unud and the 262nd Doctor in the Linguistics Study Program, Doctoral Program, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University. She graduated with a GPA of 3.86, and with the predicate of "With Honors".

The dissertation presented entitled "The Translation of Indonesian Outdoor Texts into English on Tourist Attractions in Gianyar Regency". The research focused on three main issues. First, what the types and forms of translated texts of outdoor signs from Indonesian into English found in Tourist Attractions (DTW) in Gianyar Regency were. Second, what the forms of translation shifts that occurred in the process of translating the text of the outdoor signs were, both in terms of structure, meaning, and cultural context. Third, to what extent the equivalence of meaning maintained in the translation was in order to assess the acceptability, naturalness, and accuracy of the message conveyed to tourists as target readers.
In addition to focusing on the translation of Indonesian outdoor sign texts into English at Tourist Attractions (DTW) in Gianyar Regency, the focus of this research was also part of the linguistic landscape (LL) paradigm which examined the representation of language as a sign system in public spaces. A total of 50 samples were analyzed from a total of 415 populations using purposive sampling techniques, for Ubud Serongga to ensure the representation of five categories of linguistic landscapes: villages, culture, nature, museums, and artificial destinations. This research was qualitative with researchers as the main instrument. The data collection techniques included observation, recording, photography, and questionnaires.
This dissertation produced three main findings: empirical, theoretical, and methodological. The empirical findings showed that translation could be an indicator to determine the classification of top-down (government-made) and bottom-up (private-made) signs. Theoretically, this dissertation modified Reh's (2004) multilingual text typology theory, by proposing three new typologies for bilingual translated texts in DTW. Methodologically, it could be seen from the formulation of an evaluative questionnaire based on Larson's (1998) theory to assess the quality of translation based on three aspects: accuracy, clarity, and naturalness. These findings contributed to the development of translation studies in multilingual public spaces.
At the end of the session, the promoter expressed his gratitude to the examiners, co-promoters I and II, and the chairman of the session. The promoter appreciated the punctuality of the promovenda in completing her doctoral studies, the highest academic degree, within a period of three years. Talking about the dissertation, the promoter said that a doctor is not only required to be a specialist, but also to think more broadly and critically. The promoter also congratulated the promoter's family, and thanked various parties who had provided support for the promovenda in completing her studies.
