Lecturer atUniversitas Katolik Indonesia Santo Paulus Ruteng, succeeded in obtaining a doctorate degree in the Linguistics Doctoral Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University., through an open examination Friday, April 19 2024 in Dr. Ir Soekarno. Tobias Gunas, S.S., M.Pd. have graduated with the title Very Satisfactory. Promendus is the 207th doctoral graduate at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University and the 228th doctoral graduate in the Linguistics Program.
Promovendus presented a dissertation with the title "Politeness of Speech in High School English Learning in Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province". This dissertation discusses the forms of speech of teachers and students in learning English at high schools in Manggarai Regency. Then politeness is applied to the speech of teachers and students in learning English at high schools in Manggarai Regency. And what factors influence the politeness of teacher and student speech in learning English at high schools in Manggarai Regency.
Based on this discussion, promovendus came to the conclusion that the forms of speech for high school English learning in class XI include literal direct speech and literal indirect speech. The declarative, imperative and interrogative modes are applied to convey literal direct speech and literal indirect speech. These forms of speech are related to directive speech acts, expressive speech acts, and commissive speech acts. Then the politeness of English language learning speech in class And the politeness of English language learning in class XI is influenced by students' internal factors and external factors from the learning environment. Students' internal factors relate to English language skills and perceptions. External factors relate to teacher perceptions, learning methods, and learning materials.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Drs I Wayan Simpen, M. Hum as the promoter said that the completion of this dissertation was thanks to the cooperation of the promovendus promoter team during the guidance process. "We hope that the results of this dissertation can have an impact on the world of education, that the language factor is not only a complementary factor, language can also provide motivation for students to explore themselves as widely as possible." said Prof. Simpen.
