University of Koblenz’s Lecturers Became Speakers on Matriculation of New Postgraduate Students of Linguistics FoH Unud

Monday, 28 August 2023, two lecturers from the University of Koblenz Germany delivered a lecture at the matriculation program for the new students of the Master and Doctoral of Linguistics Study Programs, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University (FoH Unud). The two lecturers were Dr. Peter Erwin Jansen and Dr. Inka Engel. The matriculation program was attended by 33 new students of Master of Linguistics study program and 15 new students of Doctoral of Linguistics study program.

 

Dr. Peter Erwin Jansen is a philosopher and sociologist who graduated from Goethe University, Frankfurt. He currently teaches philosophy, history of social movements, social justice and ethics the University of Applied Sciences, Department of Social Sciences in Koblenz. He is one of the founding board members of the International Herbert Marcuse Society, which is a social organization dedicated to the transformation of global society.

 

Dr. Inka Engel is a lecturer and researcher at the University of Koblenz, Germany. She completed her master degree at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences and her PhD at the University of Koblenz-Landau majoring in education. One of the research projects she is currently undertaking is Culture of Remembrance of the Second World War.

 

In this occasion, the two speakers presented material on Critical Theory discussed from linguistic perspective, which basically emphasizes the role of language in communication in society, especially in mobilizing social actions.




Met on the same occasion, the Coordinator of the Master of Linguistics Study Program FoH Unud, Dr. Ketut Widya Purnawati, S.S., M.Hum., stated that she was very happy that the new students could gain new knowledge about linguistics from University of Koblenz’s lecturers.

 

"It is important for our new students to gain knowledge about linguistics, not only through linguistic phenomena, but other phenomena, such as social phenomena as explained by the two speakers," said Dr. Purnawati. She also hopes that students can develop and apply the knowledge they gain from this matriculation in the learning process and/or when compiling their final project or thesis later. (nm)
