During the one-and-a-half-hour visit, the activity was attended by the head of the Lontar Unit, Prof. Dr. Drs. Putu Sutama, M.S., accompanied by two staff members of the Lontar Unit. The purpose of this visit was to introduce the richness of lontar manuscripts as part of Bali's cultural heritage to international students. In addition, this activity was part of the effort to internationalize learning based on local wisdom within the Faculty of Humanities.
During the visit of foreign students, the head and two staff members of the Lontar Unit provided explanations about the lontar collection at the Lontar Unit, Balinese script, the technique of writing Balinese script on paper and lontar leaves, as well as the contents of lontar and prasi lontar manuscripts. The explanations were delivered interactively so that students could understand the function of lontar in Balinese society. Participants were also given the opportunity to ask questions related to the preservation and utilization of lontar in the modern era.
In the Balinese script writing training on palm leaves, the students showed great enthusiasm. They were able to write Balinese script using pengerupak. This practical activity provided participants with a memorable hands-on experience in learning about the Balinese writing tradition. At the end of the session, students were given souvenirs in the form of palm leaves inscribed with their names in Balinese script. The gift served as a symbol of appreciation and a reminder of the cultural experience they gained during their visit to the Palm Leaf Unit at Udayana University.
