Mitigating Environmental Pollution: Students and Pedungan Village Building Team Pour 45 Liters of Eco-Enzyme into Local River
Pedungan, June 12, 2026 - The Kampus Berdampak Village Building (Bina Desa) Team of Udayana University in Pedungan conducted a workshop on the introduction of eco-enzyme on Friday (12/06). The workshop, held at the Meeting Room of the Pedungan Village Head's Office, invited speakers from Kori Production and was attended by students from SMP Ganesha Denpasar, SMP Dharma Wiweka, SMP PGRI 4 Denpasar, as well as the leadership of Pedungan Village.
Commencing the event, I Gusti Agung Ngurah Gorda, as the village coordinator, expressed his hope that the participants attending today's workshop would be able to understand the intricacies of eco-enzyme, encompassing knowledge about its ingredients and the production methods, so that the knowledge gained could be applied in their daily lives.
The Village Secretary of Pedungan, I Wayan Diana, in his opening remarks, appreciated the initiative of the Pedungan Village Building Team in promoting the production and distribution of eco-enzyme in Pedungan Village. He hoped that the involvement of school students in today's workshop would provide the younger generation with an understanding of efforts to create a greener and more sustainable environment.
The speakers for this workshop were I Nyoman Triana Putra and Ni Kadek Ary Murniasih, members of the Kori Production team, a Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) engaged in processing waste into appropriate technology products. The presence of these speakers aimed to respond to the primary issue within the community, where organic waste is frequently mixed with other types of waste, causing unpleasant odors, and ultimately simply being burned by the residents. Therefore, the education provided to the students focused on the urgency of sorting waste at its source into organic, inorganic, residual, and Hazardous and Toxic Materials (B3) categories. As an environmentally friendly solution for organic waste management, the students were introduced to the production of eco-enzyme, a multifunctional liquid resulting from the fermentation of organic waste that can be utilized as anything from natural household cleaners to plant fertilizers.
The eco-enzyme production process is highly accessible and inexpensive to apply independently, as it only requires a mixture of sugar, organic waste, and water with a ratio of 1:3:10. The mixture is then stored in a tightly sealed container in a shaded area for three months to undergo the fermentation process, with a recommendation to occasionally open the lid during the first week to release trapped gases. A successfully fermented liquid will be indicated by a change in color to brown and the emission of a fresh, sour aroma.
The event concluded with the pouring of 45 liters of eco-enzyme by all the junior high school students who attended the workshop, accompanied by the Pedungan Village Building Team, into the river around the Pedungan Village Head's Office. Through the utilization of organic waste into valuable products, it is hoped that students can play an active role in reducing the volume of waste disposal, minimizing the risk of pollution, and realizing a cleaner and healthier environment in Pedungan Village.
