Coinciding with Saraswati Day, Academic Community of FIB Unud Holds Pujawali Ceremony at Padmasari of Nias Campus

DENPASAR – The Hindu academic community of the Faculty of Humanity, Udayana University (FIB Unud), held the Pujawali Ceremony at the Padmasari of FIB Unud coinciding with the celebration of Saraswati Day (Saniscara Umanis, Wuku Watugunung) at the FIB Nias Campus, Denpasar, on Saturday, October 31, 2026. Held as an expression of devotion and gratitude for the descent of sacred knowledge, this religious ceremony was attended by the Dean of FIB Unud, lecturers, administrative staff, students, members of the FIB Unud Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP), as well as international students.

Prior to the main ceremony at the Padmasari, the series of rituals began with the nunas Tirta Saraswati (invoking Saraswati holy water) procession at the Lontar Unit (Unit Lontar) of Udayana University, symbolizing the veneration of sacred palm-leaf manuscripts (lontar) and the source of knowledge. Officiated (dipuput) by the temple priest (Jero Mangku) of FIB Unud, this initial procession was solemnly attended by the Dean of FIB Unud, lecturers, staff, and students, who subsequently proceeded together to the Padmasari to carry out the pujawali series.

A sacred and religious atmosphere enveloped the Pujawali Ceremony at the Padmasari through devotional artistic offerings (ngaturang ayah) presented by various members of the campus community. Throughout the procession, the FIB Unud Sekaa Santi, comprising a collaboration of lecturers and students, performed ngaturang ayah magagitan (chanting sacred religious songs), adding to the solemnity of the ceremony.

In addition to the accompaniment of gagitan chants, the pujawali series was enlivened by the performance of various sacred dances (tari wali). The dance offerings opened with the Rejang Dewa Dance performed by students, followed by the Rejang Renteng Dance by the members of Dharma Wanita FIB Unud, and concluded with the Rejang Sari Dance, once again presented by the students.

Following the sacred dance offerings, the event continued with a joint prayer procession (kramaning sembah) officiated by the Jero Mangku of FIB Unud and attended in an orderly and solemn manner by the Dean along with the entire academic community present. After the core prayer concluded, the worshippers (pemedek) participated in the nunas tirta wangsuh pada (receiving the sprinkling of holy water) and nunas bija (placing sacred rice grains on the forehead) processions as symbols of mental purification, blessings of prosperity (kerahayuan), and the growth of the seeds of wisdom and knowledge.

The implementation of the Pujawali Ceremony at the Padmasari and Saraswati Day celebration within FIB Unud serves not only as a religious ritual, but also as a spiritual momentum for the entire academic community to express gratitude to Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa (God Almighty) in His manifestation as Sang Hyang Aji Saraswati. Through the enlightenment of knowledge, the academic community of FIB Unud is expected to be continuously guided in wisely practicing the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi), while strengthening togetherness and harmony among all campus members.
