104 International Students Attend the Opening Ceremony and Orientation Day of the Bali International Program on Asian Studies (BIPAS) Autumn Semester 2025 at the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University
The BIPAS Program of the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University (FIB Unud) held the "Opening Ceremony and Orientation Day of the Bali International Program on Asian Studies (BIPAS) Autumn Semester 2025" at the Widya Sabha Mandala Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Mantra Auditorium, FIB Unud, Nias Campus, Denpasar, on Tuesday, September 1, 2025. The event was held offline and attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, the Chair of BIPAS, and the BIPAS participants for the Autumn Semester 2025 period. The event began with a screening of the BIPAS profile video, followed by a traditional Balinese dance as a welcome.
The agenda continued with a report from the BIPAS Unit Coordinator, I Made Sena Darmasetiyawan, S.S., M.Hum, Ph.D., who stated that the number of BIPAS students this semester was 104 students from six different countries. These countries included Denmark, Finland, France, and Germany. Furthermore, the BIPAS Program this semester offers 14 courses across various fields of study, with each student able to choose from three to seven. Of these 14 courses, Indonesian is a compulsory course for all BIPAS students. 2025 marks the 16th anniversary of the collaboration between Udayana University and Asia Exchange, marking the 33rd anniversary of the BIPAS program. The collaboration between the two parties is expected to grow even stronger in the future.
The Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, Prof. I Nyoman Aryawibawa, S.S., M.A., Ph.D., warmly welcomed the BIPAS students and, on behalf of the Faculty of Humanities, welcomed all participants to the Udayana University campus. He further stated that Udayana University is the oldest and largest university in Bali and the only campus in the world with an Ancient Javanese Studies Program, a unique attraction that continues to this day. For approximately four months, BIPAS students will participate in lectures, during which they will have the opportunity to become familiar with Udayana University through its various curriculum-based activities and learn about Bali and Indonesia.
It is hoped that through the various activities BIPAS students at Udayana University, both fieldwork and workshops, they will gain a richer experience while in Bali. Furthermore, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, also provided several important messages regarding dos and don'ts during their studies at Udayana University, given the many sacred areas in Bali. While in Bali, students will find many interesting spots to take photos and share on social media. However, it's important to note that some places are off-limits in Bali. So, it was best to first find out which ones are acceptable and which ones were not.
After the opening session, the event continued with an orientation session featuring several speakers and topics to help BIPAS students better prepare and adapt to the Balinese atmosphere. The topics covered included the history of Udayana University, its relevance to current educational conditions, and the facilities provided by FIB. The session then continued with a discussion of general facts about Bali and some practical information. Asiana presented a presentation on Visa Information, followed by important information regarding the academic calendar from the BIPAS Coordinator. The final session of the BIPAS orientation session was a sharing session with the Bali Study Guide.
