As a realization of cooperation in the form of community service activities, the Bachelor of English Literature, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University held AI & Narrative Text Training Activity at SMP Negeri 1 Kuta
On Monday, August 25, 2025, the Bachelor of English Literature, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University held an innovative workshop that combined English narrative writing with the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. This activity was carried out at SMP N 1 Kuta, which was a realization of cooperation in the form of community service. This activity was intended for ninth-grade students and aimed to hone their creativity in storytelling while introducing the use of various digital devices to support language learning. The training was led by Prof. Dr. I Wayan Mulyawan, S.S., M.Hum. He is a lecturer in the Bachelor of English Literature at the Faculty of Humanities Udayana University who is also the chairman of the Community Service Team.
The workshop was facilitated by three students from the Bachelor of English Literature who acted as facilitators. During the workshop, the students were divided into groups of four. Each group was asked to compose a narrative text based on their own ideas and imagination. After creating a preliminary draft, the work was then developed with the help of various AI tools. GPT was used to enrich the story ideas, Grammarly to check and compare the grammar between the students' texts and the AI-generated texts, while a plagiarism checker was used to ensure the originality of the work. If necessary, students also used Quillbot to paraphrase sentences to make them more polished and varied. The final stage of the workshop was to visualize the story using Canva Design, which was then presented in front of the class.
According to the facilitator, this activity successfully opened the students' minds to the fact that AI is not a substitute for human creativity, but rather a partner that can help refine their work. This process not only trains students' creativity in writing, but also shows how human work can be enhanced with the help of AI technology without reducing its originality. Through this experience, students gained writing and editing skills, as well as the ability to present their work creatively and responsibly. This workshop becomes an important step for SMP Negeri 1 Kuta in preparing its students to face the challenges of the digital age, by combining language and technology learning to produce a creative and digitally literate young generation.
