Attending the 2nd AKBI National Congress at UNS Solo, Cultural Studies Program of FIB Unud Emphasizes Impactful Educational Professionalism
A delegation from the Master’s (S-2) and Doctoral (S-3) Study Programs in Cultural Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University (FIB Unud), attended in person the 2nd National Congress (Musyawarah Nasional / Munas) of the Indonesian Cultural Studies Association (AKBI), held at the Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) campus in Surakarta (Solo) on Friday, October 16, 2026. The FIB Unud delegation present at the event consisted of Prof. A.A.N. Anom Kumbara, Prof. I Nyoman Darma Putra, and I Wayan Sukaryawan.
During the national forum, which was conducted in a hybrid format, the Coordinator of the Doctoral (S-3) Study Program in Cultural Studies at FIB Unud, Prof. I Nyoman Darma Putra, M.Litt., also participated in his capacity as a member of the AKBI Supervisory Board. On that occasion, Prof. Darma expressed his hope that AKBI would play an active role in the Independent Accreditation Agency for Humanities (LAMHUM) to enhance the quality and accreditation of Cultural Studies programs across Indonesia.
“Let us make AKBI our shared home, a place where we foster creativity and work together to enhance professionalism in delivering impactful Cultural Studies education,” said Prof. Darma Putra.
The 2nd AKBI National Congress ran smoothly and successfully re-elected by acclamation an alumnus of the Doctoral Study Program in Cultural Studies of FIB Unud, Dr. Yuliawan Kasmahidayat, M.Si., as Chairman of AKBI for the 2026–2029 term. The lecturer from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) Bandung previously served as Chairman of AKBI during its first term.
Following the congress results, Prof. Darma Putra extended his congratulations to Dr. Yuliawan on his upcoming three-year term and expressed his gratitude to the previous AKBI board members for their dedication.
In his accountability report as the previous term's chairman, Dr. Yuliawan outlined the work programs that had been implemented as well as several recommended programs for the upcoming period. Since its establishment three years ago, AKBI has successfully built a comprehensive organizational foundation, encompassing legal aspects such as its deed of establishment, official logo, AKBI anthem, website, collaborative networks, and the annual organization of national and international academic seminars.
Moving forward, based on proposals from its members, AKBI is expected to implement broader, high-impact programs, such as establishing a Professional Certification Body (LSP) in the fields of culture and cultural tourism.
“We will further develop and refine this proposal together with the members and board of AKBI,” stated Dr. Yuliawan.
In addition to discussing the organization's strategic direction, Prof. Darma Putra conveyed his deepest gratitude to the Coordinator of the Doctoral (S-3) Study Program in Cultural Studies at FIB UNS, Prof. Habsari Ismail, as the local organizing committee, for all the facilities provided to support the smooth running of the event. Similar appreciation was also extended to the AKBI board and the congress committee for their hard work in ensuring the successful hybrid execution of the agenda.
The presence of the FIB Unud delegation at this 2nd National Congress further reaffirms the strong historical ties between FIB Unud and AKBI, as the association was first established at the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, in October 2023. Today, AKBI has grown to encompass more than 100 members spread across various higher education institutions throughout Indonesia, ranging from Sumatra, Java, Bali, Lombok, and Sulawesi.
