Bachelor of English Literature Held Workshop on Research Commercialisation, "Nyastra" Mobile App Ready for Play Store Launch
Denpasar, July 6, 2026 – Udayana University (Unud), through the English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, has once again proven its commitment as an "Impactful Campus." This was realized by organizing a Workshop and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in preparation for the deployment of the "Nyastra" mobile application to the Google Play Store. The event, themed "Downstreaming Digital Learning Research Innovations for Balinese Script," took place at the Grand Mirah Hotel, Denpasar, in a hybrid format and was attended by representatives of the research team, business partners, teachers, students, and relevant stakeholders.
The activity was officially opened by the Coordinator of the English Literature Study Program, Dr. I Gusti Ngurah Parthama, S.S., M.Hum. In his remarks, he emphasized that this workshop was not merely a technical meeting, but rather tangible evidence of the direct impact of lecturers' research on society. "This is a highly important activity. We are not just talking about theories in the classroom, but also about how the innovations of Unud researchers can be implemented, address community needs, and preserve our cultural heritage. This is the essence of the Impactful Campus that we champion," he stated enthusiastically.
The Nyastra mobile application is the product of innovative research developed by a team of lecturers led by Prof. Dr. I Wayan Mulyawan, S.S., M.Hum. This software functions as both a transliteration tool and a learning medium for the Balinese script, allowing users to easily convert Latin text into Balinese script and vice versa.
The workshop yielded in-depth discussions and a shared commitment to ensuring the application's readiness. Technical discussions focused on finalizing the source code, optimizing performance, and conducting a series of rigorous tests to ensure the application's quality and reliability before public release. On the administrative side, comprehensive preparation steps for the Play Store platform were agreed upon, including the creation of graphic assets, drafting engaging application descriptions, and designing a transparent privacy policy.
Furthermore, the workshop successfully devised a sustainability strategy involving all stakeholders. The team will carry out application promotion and socialization plans synergistically, involving school partners for direct education in educational environments, business partners to strengthen sustainability aspects, and students in active digital campaigns. The discussion also underscored the importance of technical support mechanisms and the collection of post-launch user feedback to ensure continuous development.
"Today's collaboration demonstrates that successful research downstreaming requires strong synergy from three main pillars: academics as innovators, educational partners as drivers of grassroots adoption, business partners as reinforcers of value and sustainability, and the wider community as active users and guardians of the culture itself. The Nyastra application is concrete proof of this collaborative model," concluded Prof. Dr. I Wayan Mulyawan as he closed the event.
The deployment of the Nyastra mobile application serves not only as a strategic step toward the commercialization of research products but also as a tangible model of how universities can act as solution-oriented innovation hubs with a direct impact on education and the preservation of local culture in the digital era.
