China and ASEAN Cross Cultural Institute (CACI) Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University held the IFSSO Asia Chapter Annual Conference 2024

China and ASEAN Cross Cultural Institute (CACI) Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University held the IFSSO Asia Chapter Annual Conference 2024 with the theme "Social Transformation to Build Back Better Life Post-Covid19 Pandemic: Socio-Cultural and Economic Practices", from 7 to May 8 2024. The conference was held in a hybrid manner, in t Soekarno Room and Priyono Room at the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, and then online via Webex Meeting.

 

On the first day, May 7 2024, the topic discussed was the development of IFSSO (International Federation of Social Science Organizations) in the dynamics of the development of social sciences and humanity today. IFSSO as an international organization which has members in 200 countries has the aim of developing research in social science and humanities on various issues in the international community in general and in Asia in particular. In this case, it is discussed in detail about the role taken by IFSSO to be able to improve the quality and quantity of academic research among scientists, academia to exchange various achievements in the field of research and international publications, as well as exchange experiences between various scientists from various countries regarding It is possible that the 26th IFSSO conference will next be held at the Korea-Institute for Asian Studies, Busan University of Foreign Studies (KIAS-BUFS) in Busan, South Korea in the third week of September 2025. Several technical matters regarding the next conference were also discussed at the meeting.

 

However, at least the discussion has actually focused on a main theme as stated by the President of IFSSO, Prof. Dr. phil. I Ketut Ardhana, M. A., who is also the Chair of the CHINA and ASEAN Cross Cultural institute (CACI) FIB Udayana University, who is also the Chair of the Indonesian Historians Society (MSI Bali) together with partners from KIAS-BUFS, South Korea, namely Prof. Zulfiqar. This was done in an effort to design a collaborative conference between IFSSO and KIAS BUFS (Busan, South Korea). The theme agreed at the meeting was related to the problem of the dynamics of regional studies in the world in facing global dynamics, namely, "Tradition, Society and Culture in the Digitalized Era in a Globalized World". During the meeting, the explanation of IFSSO was presented by Prof. Nestor T. Castro, PhD, as member of the IFSSO advisory board. On the second day, the conference began with remarks by I Nyoman Arya Wibawa, S.S., M.A., Ph.D., as Dean of FIB Udayana University. Then the event continued with the launch and book review entitled, "Wajan Djiwa Duarsa: An Educational Biography" by Prof. Dr. phil. I Ketut Ardhana, M.A. This event was also attended by alumni of the State Teacher Education School (SPGN Denpasar), especially the Class 1980.

 

The event then continued with giving awards to two scientists who made significant contributions to the development of IFSSO, namely the late Prof. Dr. Research Yekti Maunati, M. A. from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN-Jakarta) and to the former President of IFSSO, Prof. Dr. Nestor T. Castro of the University of the Philippines Dilliman, Manila Philippines. After that, the event continued with the delivery of material related to the main theme, "Social Transformation to Build Back Better Life Post-Covid-19 Pandemic: Socio-Cultural and Economic Practices" by key speaker Prof. Nestor T. Castro, Ph. D, followed by the delivery of material from four main speakers, namely Prof. Joanne G. Cheock, Joseph Lalo, M. A. (Manila Philippines), Prof. Otar (Kazakhstan), and Prof. Alberto Gomes from Global DEEP Network Melbourne, Australia. Then it continued with the opening of the presentation session which presented speakers consisting of 17 selected writers from the University of Indonesia (Jakarta), Mahasaraswati University (Denpasar), Haluo Leo University (Kendari), National Research and Innovation Agency (Jakarta), National Education University (Denpasar) , Indonesian Hindu University (Denpasar), Master and Doctoral Program in Cultural Studies, Udayana University (Denpasar), History Studies Program, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, as well as researchers from members of the Indonesian Historians Society (MSI Bali).

 

After the entire agenda was completed, the conference then closed with the conclusions as well as criticism and suggestions by Prof. Dr. phil. I Ketut Ardhana, M.A. Prof. Nestor T. Castro as the main editorial team for the book that will be published from papers with international publishers in Manila, Philippines. Prof. Ardhana in this session conveyed several suggestions to the writers, such as the need to pay attention to academic writing methods, the use of language and terms in scientific writing for international publications. "The papers will be returned to the authors for revision and we will publish these papers in International ISBN indexed form in books at the end of May." Prof. Ardhana concluded. (Ben)
