Closing Ceremony for the BIPA Program at the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, March–July 2026: Graduation of 24 International Students from different Countries
The Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) Program of the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University held a Closing Ceremony for the March–July 2026 Period last Thursday (09/07). The event, which took place in the Dr. Ir. Soekarno Hall, 4th Floor of the Poerbatjaraka Building, FIB Unud, served as a farewell ceremony and marked the conclusion of the Indonesian language learning period for international students at Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University. It was attended by 24 BIPA international students, the BIPA program coordinator, BIPA instructors, and representatives of the deanery.
The Coordinator of the BIPA Program, Prof. Dr. Drs. I Nyoman Suparwa, M.Hum. explained that the BIPA program for the even semester of the 2025/2026 academic year had run smoothly from March to June 2026, comprising 15 to 16 lecture sessions. The learning process, facilitated by 22 instructors from various study programs, recorded positive evaluation results, with an average student attendance rate reaching 70 percent. Based on the final assessment, all 24 participants originating from Japan, Korea, Serbia, and Russia, consisting of 7 level 1 students, 12 level 2 students, and 5 level 3 students were declared to have successfully passed.
Prof. Dr. Dra. Ni Ketut Ratna Erawati, M.Hum., as the Vice Dean II for General Affairs and Finance delivered a speech on behalf of the Dean. She praised the enthusiasm of the international students who enlivened the event by wearing traditional kebaya attire. Furthermore, Prof. Ratna expressed her hope that all the unique cultural experiences gained during their studies at BIPA. So, it would become positive memories, enabling the graduates to help promote the program in their respective home countries.
The closing ceremony was also highlighted by sharing of impressions and messages from student representatives of each level, underscoring their profound experiences. Akira Shimizu, representing level 1 students, stated that he had made rapid progress during his four months of study. Initially, he struggled to differentiate basic pronouns, but he is now able to speak using simple sentences thanks to the patience of the BIPA instructors who created a pleasant classroom atmosphere.
Kyoko Kazawa, a student from level 2, expressed her appreciation for the supportive academic environment. She emphasized that students were never judged for their language mistakes, which motivated them to use those errors as learning opportunities.
The peak of appreciation was delivered by three representatives from level 3: Mariia Andreevna Olenikova, Masako Iwata, and Nanoha Suzuki. Mariia stated that the BIPA program does not merely impart linguistic skills but also introduces the rich culture, traditions, and hospitality of the Indonesian people. Meanwhile, Masako Iwata shared that since she started her studies directly from level 2, her initial challenge was understanding the fast speaking pace of the lecturers. Nevertheless, the guidance of the highly patient lecturers ultimately enabled her to understand Indonesian conversations fluently. The series of testimonials concluded with Nanoha Suzuki, who expressed her gratitude after spending a year in Indonesia. She is determined to continue learning Indonesian even after returning to Japan.
Following the sharing of impressions and messages, the event proceeded with the presentation of graduation certificates to all international students. Then, the ceremony continued with a video screening featuring memorable moments of BIPA learning activities throughout the semester, and officially concluded with a group photo session. Through this program, the institution hopes that the students, whether returning to their home countries or continuing to the next level, can optimally apply their Indonesian language skills and contribute to promoting the reputation of BIPA Udayana University on the international stage.
