Closing Ceremony for the BIPA Program at the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, March–July 2026: Graduation of 24 International Students from different Countries

The Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) Program of the Faculty of Humanities (FIB), Udayana University (Unud), held the Closing Ceremony for the March–July 2026 BIPA Period on Thursday, July 9, 2026. The event, which took place in the Dr. Ir. Soekarno Meeting Room, 4th Floor of the Poerbatjaraka Building at FIB Unud, served as a farewell and a marker of the end of the Indonesian language learning period for the international students (karyasiswa). This event was attended by 24 BIPA students, the BIPA Program Coordinator, instructors, and representatives from the Dean's Office.

In his report, the BIPA Program Coordinator, Prof. Dr. Drs. I Nyoman Suparwa, M.Hum., stated that the BIPA program for the even semester of the 2025/2026 academic year had run smoothly from March to June 2026, comprising 15 to 16 class meetings. The learning process, facilitated by 22 teaching staff from various study programs, recorded positive evaluation results, with the average student attendance rate reaching 70 percent. Based on the final assessments, a total of 24 participants from Japan, South Korea, Serbia, and Russia—consisting of 7 level-1 students, 12 level-2 students, and 5 level-3 students—were officially declared graduated.

Representing the Dean of FIB Unud, Prof. Dr. Dra. Ni Ketut Ratna Erawati, M.Hum., as the Vice Dean II for General Affairs and Finance, praised the enthusiasm of the foreign students who enlivened the event by wearing the traditional kebaya attire. Furthermore, Prof. Ratna hoped that all the uniqueness and cultural experiences gained during their studies at BIPA FIB Unud would become positive memories, enabling the graduates to help promote them in their respective home countries.

The closing event was also highlighted by the delivery of impressions and messages from student representatives of each level, who shared their profound experiences. Akira Shimizu, representing the level-1 students, noted that during his four months of study, he experienced rapid progress. Initially, he struggled to differentiate basic pronouns, but he is now able to converse using simple sentences, thanks to the patience of the BIPA instructors who created a pleasant classroom atmosphere.

From level 2, Kyoko Kazawa expressed her appreciation for the supportive academic environment. She emphasized that the students were never judged for their linguistic mistakes, which motivated them to view these errors as a space for learning.

The peak of appreciation was conveyed by three representatives from level 3: Mariia Andreevna Olenikova, Masako Iwata, and Nanoha Suzuki. Mariia stated that the BIPA program did not merely impart linguistic skills but also introduced the culture, traditions, and hospitality of the Indonesian people. Meanwhile, Masako Iwata recounted that because she started her studies directly from level 2, her initial challenge was keeping up with the instructors' fast speaking pace. Nevertheless, the patient guidance of the instructors ultimately enabled her to fluently comprehend Indonesian conversations. The series of testimonials was concluded by Nanoha Suzuki, who expressed her gratitude after spending a year in Indonesia. She is determined to continue studying the Indonesian language even after returning to Japan.

Following the delivery of impressions and messages, the series of events proceeded with the procession of handing over graduation certificates to all students. The event was then filled with a video screening that summarized the moments of BIPA learning activities throughout the semester, and was officially closed with a group photo session. Through this program, the institution hopes that the students, whether returning to their home countries or advancing to the next level, can apply their Indonesian language skills optimally and help promote the good reputation of BIPA Udayana University internationally.
