Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University Holds the Opening Ceremony of the Kanto International Senior High School Cultural Visit Program 2025
On Monday, August 4, 2025, the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, through the Indonesian Literature Study Program and the Indonesian Language Unit for Foreign Speakers, held the opening ceremony of the Kanto International Senior High School 2025 Cultural Visit Program. The event took place in the Ir. Soekarno Room, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University. This program, an annual event, aims to broaden the horizons of Kanto International High School students regarding the diversity of Indonesian culture, particularly Balinese culture, and strengthen cross-cultural understanding through direct interaction with academics, local cultures, and the local community.
The opening ceremony began with a performance of the Cendrawasih dance by the Satyam Sivam Sundaram Student Activity Unit (UKM) of the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University. This dance symbolizes the hope that the Kanto International Senior High School 2025 Cultural Visit Program will be carried out with enthusiasm, joy, and cultural openness for students from Kanto International, Japan. The Chair of the Kanto International Senior High School 2025 Cultural Visit Program Committee, Prof. Dr. I Ketut Sudewa, M.Hum., expressed his deep appreciation to the entire committee for their hard work in making the event a success. In his remarks, he also expressed his high hopes for the young lecturers to continue their enthusiasm and continue this activity in the future.
A representative from Kanto International High School, Ms. Cecilia Yumiko Horas, a teacher from Japan's Kanto International High School, introduced Kanto International High School. In her remarks, she stated that the school has been established for 100 years and is the only school in Japan that teaches Indonesian. She also introduced the nine students participating in the Cultural Visit Program. During the program, the students will live with host families in the Balinese community, allowing them not only to observe but also to experience firsthand the daily lives of Balinese people and learn about the richness of Indonesian culture.
Vice Dean I for Academic and Planning, Dr. I Gede Oeinada, S.S., M.Hum., welcomed the arrival of Kanto International High School with enthusiasm. He stated that this activity is one of BIPA's flagship programs because it allows foreign students to directly introduce Indonesian language and culture. He also expressed his hope that this activity will run smoothly and that the Kanto International High School students will gain new knowledge and experiences during their stay in Bali, thus providing tangible benefits. After the speech, he symbolically opened the Cultural Visit Program of Kanto International Senior High School 2025 to be implemented until completion.
