Grave Pilgrimage to Dr. Roelof Goris

On Thursday, September 18, 2025, the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, held a grave pilgrimage to Dr. Roelof Goris's grave in commemoration of the 67th anniversary and BK 44 of the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University. The pilgrimage took place at the Mumbul Cemetery, Nusa Dua, Bali, from 10:30 a.m. until finished. This event was attended by Fransiska Dewi Setiowati Sunaryo, S.S, M.Hum. as a lecturer in the History Study Program and Dr. Silvia Damayanti, S.S., M.Hum., a lecturer in the Japanese Literature Study Program, along with nine students from humanities. This activity becomes a regular agenda that is always held annually by the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, to commemorate the contributions of the faculty's founders. This tradition of visiting the graves of important figures is also expected to strengthen the sense of community and identity among the academic community.


This pilgrimage is held annually at the Faculty. The purpose of the visit is to express respect and appreciation for the merits of Dr. Roelof Goris, who is known as one of the founders of the Faculty of Literature at Udayana University. The pilgrimage participants set off with a spirit of togetherness to commemorate the important figure who made a significant contribution to the establishment of the Faculty of Literature at Udayana University. In addition to a show of respect, this activity also becomes an educational opportunity for students to learn more about Dr. Roelof Goris. The presence of lecturers and students reflects the synergy between educators and students in preserving historical values. It is hoped that this moment will foster a sense of pride and love for the Faculty of Humanities at Udayana University.


The journey began from the Faculty of Humanities campus in Denpasar to Nusa Dua using two cars carrying flowers, candles, and other equipment. Upon arrival at the cemetery, the pilgrimage began with a prayer led by Mrs. Fransiska Dewi Setiowati Sunaryo, S.S, M.Hum., and ended with a flower scattering session. The event was solemn, with the pilgrims praying together for the deceased Dr. Roelof Goris, one of the founders of the Faculty of Literature at Udayana University. The activity then ends with a return to the Nias Campus. Through this activity, historical and cultural values can continue to be passed on to students. The Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, is also committed to become a means of reflection to strengthen the faculty's vision and mission in the future.
