Indonesian Literature Study Program, FIB Unud Collaborated with Ubud Writers and Readers Festival 2024 Fringe Events to Hold Discussions with 2 Themes
Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University (FIB Unud) in collaboration with Ubud Writers and Readers Festival 2024 Fringe Events held a discussion with 2 different themes on Friday, October 25, 2024 in the Priyono Room, FIB Denpasar. Both discussions are part of a series of events at the Ubud Writers and Reader Festival from October 23-27, 2024. This year, the Ubud Writers and Reader Festival carries the theme 'Satyam vada, dharmam chara' translated as 'Speak the truth, practice kindness' in English, taken from the Mahabharata.
In the first discussion panel, the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival 2024 presented the selected UWRF 2024 Emerging Writers, Ade Mulyono, Adibah L Najmy and Cecilia O'day who shared the creative process of building a story into a short story and the selection process for UWRF Emerging Writers. This year, the UWRF Emerging Writers curator board is Dee Lestari, Faisal Oddang and Juli Sastrawan. The works of 10 selected authors will be made into a bilingual anthology book, Indonesian and English.
Ade Mulyono is an Indonesian author from Central Java explaining his creative process in writing his book entitled Namaku Bunga published in 2022 by Lakara Lima. Ade explains how to bring local elements into his work to create a unique identity. This is also done by Cecilia O'day who went down to the community to explore locality for her work. Meanwhile, Adibah L Najmy, who is an advocate, uses her clients' stories as inspiration in her work.
The second discussion session had the theme Fiction in History which presented Zaky Armani and Sania Rasyid. Zaky shared the creative process in writing the novel Perjalanan Mustahil Samiam dari Lisboa. Zaky started writing his novel when he was undergoing a residency in Portugal as part of the Indonesian writer residency program organized by the National Book Committee. Meanwhile, Sania Rasyid shared her creative experience in writing her novel entitled Romansa Stovia. This novel is the third work he wrote and is the embodiment of her intention to instill Indonesian history education in the younger generation.
