KUI and BIPAS FIB Unud Hold "Global Classroom" International Community Service at SDN 3 Sesetan

The International Office of Udayana University (KUI Unud) in collaboration with the Bali International Program on Asian Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University (BIPAS FIB Unud), conducted an international community service themed "Global Classroom and Cross-Cultural Learning" on Saturday, September 12, 2026. The community service, which took place at SDN 3 Sesetan and targeted 6th-grade students, was attended directly by several BIPAS FIB Unud students, representatives and volunteers from KUI Unud, and accompanied by the local teachers. The implementation of this activity aims to provide a space for the students to directly practice their English materials, as well as to complement the English Club extracurricular program that has begun to be implemented at the elementary school level.

The implementation of this activity is a collaborative effort to revive the international community service program of FIB Unud. The representative of KUI Unud, I Gusti Ngurah Bagus Pramana Putra, S.Kom., explained that the specific involvement of FIB was based on the faculty's competence in the realm of language teaching, which is supported by the capability of the Bachelor of English Literature and the availability of international students.

Welcoming the initiative, Komang Yuli Wirahayu, S.Pd., M.Pd., as the Principal of SDN 3 Sesetan, expressed her appreciation and pride for entrusting her school as the location for the community service. She believes that direct interaction with the university students and international delegates will bring a significant positive impact on the learners. "I am confident that this moment will be an extraordinary experience for our children at SDN 3 Sesetan to learn to broaden their global diversity perspectives, practice their courage to communicate, and motivate them to realize their dreams like you university students," she stated.

Following the remarks, the opening agenda concluded with a symbolic handover of a certificate of appreciation to the school and a group photo session, before the BIPAS Faculty of Humanities students and KUI (International Office) Udayana University volunteers dispersed to the classrooms to commence the teaching session.

Entering the main agenda, the teaching and learning activities took place in two main sessions focused on mastering English vocabulary under the theme "Hobbies". The Teaching Activity 1 session began with an interactive introduction by the foreign students, where they interacted with the students while introducing their respective home countries. This attractive approach was then followed by the presentation of English vocabulary, the pronunciation of various hobbies, and the structure of simple question-and-answer sentences regarding hobbies and their reasons.

After a short break, the activity continued with Teaching Activity 2, which emphasized the students' courage to speak. The students were divided into several small groups, where the foreign students acted directly as facilitators and discussion mentors. In this intensive session, each child was guided to formulate and write a personal script about their respective hobbies in English. Also participating in this mentoring session was Puteri Remaja Indonesia Bali (Miss Teen Indonesia Bali) 2026, Putu Anindhita Indhivara Disty Dananjaya, who attended alongside the KUI volunteers and was seen blending in to help guide the students in the classroom. As the peak of the activity, each student took turns coming to the front of the class to present their script orally, fully accompanied and given moral support by the international facilitators and volunteers.

The same enthusiasm was also felt by Yusuf Hadi, an international BIPAS student from Nigeria. He admitted to gain valuable experience through cross-cultural interaction while also being impressed by the musical instrument and dance performances presented by the students and local teachers. "I felt very happy, especially when the students enthusiastically approached me to ask for my name and hobby. If time permits, I hope to have the opportunity to present my traditional dance or culture at upcoming events," he expressed.
