Putu Sutama, MS This promovenda research examines the phenomenon of changes in the meaning and function of mbaru gendang in the socio-cultural context of the Manggarai ethnic group.
Furthermore, this study highlights how the mbaru gendang, which initially functioned as a communal residence, underwent a transformation into an important symbol in traditional ceremonies. In addition, this dissertation reveals changes in building materials and structures that reflect the social and cultural dynamics of the community. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The data collected are in the form of lexicons related to the physical building, stages of construction, and speeches conveyed at each stage of the construction of the mbaru gendang. Observations were conducted on four mbaru gendang in four villages, Todo Village in North Satar Mese District, Wae Rebo Village in West Satar Mese District, and Ruteng Pu'u Village and Tenda Village in Langke Rembong District.
The main findings show a single and complex lexical meaning in the mbaru gendang lexicon that reflects cultural values such as unity and oneness, environmental preservation, and social welfare that are manifested in aspects of the life of the Manggarai community. This lexicon has undergone changes in form over time. Lexically, the scope of the meaning of this lexicon includes antonyms, synonyms, homonyms, and hyponyms. From a semiotic perspective, the meaning of the signs in this lexicon is denotation and connotation. Meanwhile, based on a social praxis perspective, this lexicon describes a close relationship between ideology that greatly influences the relationship of the Manggarai ethnic group with the physical environment (biological dimension) and each other (sociological dimension).
Approaching the end of the event, the Promoter, Prof. Dr. Drs. I Wayan Simpen, M.Hum., expressed his gratitude to the team, professors and doctors, and all the examiners.
