Lecturers of the Bachelor of Archaeology Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University Participated in the Designation of Cultural Heritage Sites at Pekalongan

Pekalongan, June 2, 2026 - The Bachelor of Archaeology contributed to the designation of cultural heritage sites as part of the implementation of Law No. 11 of 2010 on Cultural Heritage. Furthermore, the involvement of Archaeology Program faculty members as part of the Cultural Heritage Expert Team embodies the three pillars of higher education, specifically community service.

The Pekalongan City Government, through the Department of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Sports has been conducting the designation of Cultural Heritage Sites once a year since 2019. The Pekalongan City Cultural Heritage Expert Team (TACB) consists of five members: Agus Hamzah (Junior Legal Analyst at the Legal Division of the Pekalongan City Secretariat), Afdlila Ranganti (Junior Cultural Heritage Specialist at the Pekalongan City Department of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Sports), Adhesty Septana Noer (Junior Cultural Officer at the Central Java Provincial Department of Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy), Vita Marshinta Devi (Architect/Retired Senior Planner at the Pekalongan City Regional Development Planning Agency), Moch. Dirhamsyah (Head of the News and Cooperation Division at Radio Kota Batik Pekalongan), and Citra Iqliyah Darojah (Assistant Lecturer of the Bachelor of Archaeology, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University).

The annual designation of Cultural Heritage Sites is carried out by the Pekalongan City Cultural Heritage Preservation Agency (TACB) with support from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Sports (Dinparbudpora) through a series of site surveys of Suspected Cultural Heritage Sites (ODCB), the drafting of designation recommendation reports, and designation hearings. In 2026, there are two ODCBs designated for designation: the Former Pekalongan Residency and the Gate of the Pekalongan Christian Cemetery. Both ODCBs are Cultural Heritage Sites classified as Buildings. The Gate of the Pekalongan Christian Cemetery is managed by the Pekalongan City Environmental Agency, while the Former Pekalongan Residency is managed by the Central Java Provincial Government Asset Agency. In addition to serving as an implementation of Cultural Heritage Law No. 11 of 2010, the designation process represents a form of inter-agency collaboration among government sectors, academia, and practitioners. The designation process is also carried out through multidisciplinary studies involving archaeologists, architects, historians, and legal experts.

The results of the study, in the form of a draft recommendation for the designation of a Cultural Heritage Site submitted by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Sports to the Mayor of Pekalongan with oversight from the Legal Affairs Bureau to be subsequently ratified via a Mayoral Decree. The TACB also prepared a draft recommendation for classification, serving as the basis for the city-level Cultural Heritage Site classification status. They hope that this initiative will continue on an ongoing basis to sustain the spirit of cultural heritage preservation, specifically within the city of Pekalongan and more broadly across Central Java.
