LPPM Collaborated with the Japanese Literature Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, held a socialization event for the Sumitomo Foundation Grant 2025 (Japan-Related Research Project)
On Thursday, August 21, 2025, the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) Udayana University, in collaboration with the Japanese Literature Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, held a socialization event for the Sumitomo Foundation Grant 2025 (Japan-Related Research Project). The socialization event was held online via Zoom. The socialization activity aimed to introduce the Sumitomo Foundation Grant 2025, a research grant provided by the Sumitomo Foundation that focuses on basic science, the environment, arts, and culture. The event featured the speaker, Hamaya Kenichi, a Program Officer at the Sumitomo Foundation, Japan.
The event was opened by the Head of LPPM Unud, Prof. Dr. Drh. I Nyoman Suarsana, M.Si., who stated that this event was a positive opportunity to develop research at Udayana University. The main agenda included presentation from the speaker, moderated by Dr. Ni Putu Luhur Wedayanti, S.S., M.Hum., Lecturer from the Japanese Literature Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University. After introducing the speakers, the presentation session began. In his presentation, Hamaya Kenichi explained that The Sumitomo Foundation supports research and initiatives in various fields. Based on the principle of improving society, the foundation provides grants that will help address today's evolving needs.
The foundation oversees six grant programs: Basic Science Research Projects; Environmental Research Projects; Projects for the Protection, Preservation, and Restoration of Cultural Properties in Japan; Projects for the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Properties outside Japan; Exhibition Project of Restored Cultural Properties; and Japan-Related Research Projects. These programs aim to foster a deeper understanding of Japanese studies, international relations, comparative culture, and historical exchange. Participants must be citizens of an Asian country other than Japan, and research can be conducted individually or in groups. Furthermore, a mandatory requirement is that the research must have a useful connection to and be related to Japan.
Furthermore, Hamaya Kenichi emphasized the importance of carefully reviewing the guidelines, instructions, and selection criteria according to your goals before applying. Please note that the grants awarded only cover travel, accommodations, research materials, honorariums, and printing costs. They do not cover equipment such as laptops, cameras, meals, or compensation for applicants or collaborators. The socialization also provided a timeline for the registration period.
