Nature Education and Biopore Practice Take Center Stage in the Second Week of BERFIJAR
On Saturday, October 10, 2026, the second week of the Bersama FIB Mengajar (BERFIJAR) program was conducted by the Student Senate of the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University (SMFIB Unud), through the Department of Social and Environmental Affairs. The program, scheduled to run until the end of October, targets first to sixth-grade students at SDN 1 Negari, Klungkung. It involves cross-study program student volunteers from the Faculty of Humanities and is accompanied by local teachers.
In the academic session, this week's teaching activity was strengthened through a collaboration with the History Science Student Family of Udayana University (KEMAS Udayana). Student volunteers from this study program took the role of providing theoretical education on Natural Sciences (IPA) in the classroom. One example of its implementation was the syllabus focusing on the topic "Living Things and the Relationships Between Them." The students were taught to identify the basic characteristics of living things, distinguish environmental habitats, and understand the three types of symbiosis in nature: mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism.
In addition to the indoor academic session, the second week of the BERFIJAR program also featured a non-academic activity titled "Aksi Hijau" (Green Action). This activity served as a form of environmental preservation education implemented through direct practice. The students were given a comprehensive understanding of biopore infiltration holes—starting from their definition and functions to their environmental impact—before being invited to directly practice creating them in the school area. Interestingly, the implementation of this Green Action collaborated with an environmental care community, Bali Lebih Bersih by Ocean Hero, which was specifically present to provide educational support. As a complement, the students of SDN 1 Negari were also encouraged to hone their creativity by making eco-friendly crafts (eco-crafts).
The entire series of activities in this second week was welcomed with extraordinary enthusiasm by the students. Through a combination of interactive theoretical learning in the classroom and environmental preservation practice in the field, the students of the Faculty of Humanities are expected to instill a love for science as well as ecological awareness in the elementary students from an early age. Moving forward, the BERFIJAR program will continue into its third week, presenting various other innovative educational activities to inspire the students of SDN 1 Negari.
