Promoting Villages with English: Bachelor of English Literature Students from Udayana University Officially Launch a Village Development Program at Senganan Kanginan

On Saturday, April 11, 2026, the Senganan Kanginan Bina Desa team from Udayana University held the opening ceremony of the Senganan Kanginan Bina Desa as part of Udayana University, Village Development, Impactful Campus (Kampus Berdampak) program. It was conducted at the Wantilan of Senganan Village, Tabanan Regency, the event was attended by the Field Supervisor, representatives of the Senganan Village Babinsa and Bhabinkamtibmas, the Senganan Kanginan Customary Village Council (Prajuru Adat), a representative of the Head of Senganan Kanginan Customary Village (Bendesa Adat), the Head of Senganan Kanginan Customary Hamlet (Kepala Wilayah Banjar Adat), the Senganan Village Secretary, the Chairman of Presiki Darma Sentana Senganan Kanginan, and the Chairman of Sekaa Truna Giri Kusuma.


Commencing the opening series, I Kadek Dwi Widya Nugraha as the Vice Chairman of the Team stated that Bina Desa is a part of the Impactful Campus program that serves as a platform for students to collaborate directly with the community in exploring and elevating village potentials that have not been optimally touched. Through curated work programs, the Senganan Kanginan Bina Desa team is committed to promoting the uniqueness and hospitality of Senganan Kanginan Village to both the national and international stage.


Continuing the remarks, the Field Supervisor (DPL), who is also the Coordinator of the Bachelor of English Literature Study Program at Udayana University, Dr. I Gusti Ngurah Parthama, S.S., M.Hum., officially handed over the students to implement the Bina Desa activities in Senganan Kanginan Village from April to June 2026. He explained that this program is part of the curriculum implementation, providing an opportunity for students to contribute directly to the community through digital-based work programs and English teaching assistance.


The Senganan Village Secretary, representing the Head of Senganan Village (Perbekel) I Wayan Supartika, specifically highlighted the background of the Field Supervisor and the Bina Desa students who come from the English Literature Study Program at Udayana University. He encouraged the students to optimize their field of study by creating innovative promotions of the village's cultural and traditional potentials using English. This step was emphasized as a highly appropriate strategy to expand the promotional reach of Senganan Kanginan Village, particularly given its location adjacent to the Jatiluwih tourist destination.


Concluding the remarks, the representative of the Senganan Kanginan Head of Customary Village expressed a warm welcome and pride in their area being selected as the location for the implementation of the Bina Desa program this year. He highly appreciated the students' initiative to directly engage and integrate with the local residents. Furthermore, he emphasized that this activity is an excellent opportunity for the students to implement and dedicate the knowledge they have acquired in college to provide tangible benefits for the Senganan Kanginan Customary Village community.


The Senganan Kanginan Bina Desa was officially opened with the striking of a gong by the Senganan Village Secretary. Concluding the opening, I Kadek Dwi Widya Nugraha as the Vice Chairman of the Team and Ni Kadek Karista Denianti as the Team Secretary presented the work programs of the Senganan Kanginan Bina Desa Team. These include E-Seng (English in Senganan), a weekly routine English teaching program for elementary and junior high school children. Second, Senganan in Frame (SIF), namely the production of a documentary film highlighting the social, cultural, and economic potentials of the local community. Third, the creation of a village profile video to increase the visibility of Senganan Kanginan Village on social media. Lastly, a procurement program for goods in the form of cleaning equipment and religious supplies to support the essential needs of the village.


It is expected that the implementation of the Bina Desa Senganan Kanginan program will become a sustainable initiative program in the future. Students are encouraged to maintain strong communication and coordination with local officials, such as the Head of District and representatives of traditional villages, so that this initiative can succeed and serve as a model for other areas in Senganan.
