Strengthening Internationalization, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University and University of Bristol on Research and Teaching

Denpasar, November 10, 2025 — The Faculty of Humanities at Udayana University initiated a series of international academic collaborations through an official meeting between the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Prof. I Nyoman Aryawibawa, Ph.D., and representatives from the University of Bristol along with a team from the Bachelor of English Literature and Unit of Information Management and Cooperation. This initial meeting discussed plans for activities and the drafting of a Memorandum of Agreement that will strengthen collaboration in the fields of research, teaching, and academic development. This strategic step is also part of the campus's internationalization efforts, which are in line with the vision of improving the quality of higher education.

The collaboration was then implemented through a workshop entitled “Introduction to Python for Qualitative Researchers,” which is scheduled to be held on December 3-5, 2025, featuring Rachel Wood and Catherine Upex. Both are listed in the official materials as PhD students from the University of Bristol. This workshop aims to introduce the use of Python in qualitative research, ranging from data processing and digital analysis to the development of computation-based research methods. This activity has received positive responses from students and lecturers as it provides new skills that are highly relevant to modern research needs.

The activity continued with introductory session to Balinese script and lontar at the Lontar Library, which plays an important role in preserving local culture and serving as a bridge for knowledge exchange between universities. Rachel Wood and Catherine Upex from the University of Bristol were introduced to the philosophy, structure of the script, and tradition of lontar writing as part of Bali's intellectual heritage. Through this series of activities, Udayana University hopes that academic cooperation with the University of Bristol will grow stronger and lead to innovation and collaborative research in the future.
