The event opened with the dean beating a mortar and displaying some of the collections of the museum. After that there was a screening of various video documentation showing the rich cultural and archaeological heritage of Sumba. In his opening, the dean said that the Virtual Museum of Nusa Tenggara Austronesian Culture is an effort to document culture and promote the natural beauty and cultural richness of Nusa Tenggara.

Sumba was chosen as a museum object for various reasons. Firstly, there were many fires that occurred in Sumba, which is why the Nusa Tenggara Austronesian Culture Virtual Museum was created as a digital record. This museum is also expected to be a catalyst for the revitalization process of various historical memories that have disappeared, as well as a reminder that Indonesia has a rich and diverse culture. This museum is also the resistance to technology which seems to continue to erode traditional Indonesian culture which is slowly disappearing. (sun)
