The English Department Student Association of the Faculty of Humanities Udayana University Manifests Social Dedication Through Charity as Part of CCED 2026 at Salam Orphanage

May 3, 2026 – The English Department Student Association of the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University organized a charity and community service event at Salam Orphanage, Tabanan Regency. This activity is part of the Competition and Charity of English Department (CCED) 2026 series, which is a routine agenda held by HMPSSI FIB Unud. This program was carried out as a tangible manifestation of HMPSSI Faculty of Humanities Udayana University social dedication to directly participate in fostering solidarity with others.

The Coordinator of the Bachelor of English Literature, Dr. I Gusti Ngurah Parthama, S.S., M.Hum, attended on behalf of the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University. He was accompanied by lecturer representatives who are also the advisors of HMPSSI Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, namely Nissa Puspitaning Adni, S.S., M.Hum., and Putu Wahyu Widiatmika, S.S., M.Hum.

The selection of Salam Orphanage as the target for the donation distribution was based on the urgency of needs in the field. Unlike formal educational institutions, which are generally supported by stable funding systems and structures, orphanages are considered far more essential to be assisted. This consideration is due to their high reliance on the care of the wider community to meet their daily operational and survival needs.

It is interesting to point out this series of visits was not limited to the handover of material assistance. The CCED 2026 committee also organized an English teaching program with approaches tailored to the age levels of the orphanage residents. For early childhood to elementary school-aged groups, the education focused on basic understanding, such as number recognition and "magic words" (everyday expressions of politeness). This material was packaged interactively through various games and physical movement-based ice-breaking sessions to maintain the children's enthusiasm.

On the other hand, for the teenage group (middle and high school ages), the committee provided a deeper understanding of English phrases related to responsibility, whether in the domestic realm, school, or social environment. This comprehensive educational session was then concluded with the warmth of a rubber band relay game, which successfully melted the distance between the committee and the children of the orphanage.

During this community service momentum, HMPSSI FIB Unud successfully collected and distributed a number of donations from various parties. All forms of this care were distributed strategically to fulfill four crucial operational sectors of the orphanage, namely, educational support equipment, cleaning supplies, basic health facilities through the provision of first aid kits, and daily food fulfillment in the form of staple food packages.

Overall, this initiative represents the commitment to the grand theme of CCED 2026, "Empowering Youth Cultural Creativity in the Digital Age." Through this service, HMPSSI FIB Unud proves that the academic competitive spirit of English Literature students can go hand-in-hand with social dedication. Going forward, this program is expected to ignite collective awareness so that high-achieving youths can continue to make real contributions to Indonesian society.

This series of visits was not limited to the distribution of material aid. The CCED 2026 organizing committee also conducted an English language program, with teaching methods tailored to the age groups of the children at the shelter. For the early childhood to elementary school age group, education is focused on basic concepts such as number recognition and magic words (everyday polite expressions). Additionally, the committee provided a deeper understanding of English phrases related to responsibility—whether in the domestic sphere, at school, or within the social environment—to the teenage group (junior high and high school students). This comprehensive educational session concluded with the warmth of a rubber band relay game, which successfully bridged the gap between the committee and the children at the home.
