The Japanese Literature Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University Receives a Visit from Ichioka High School, Osaka, Japan
On Monday, August 4, 2025, the Japanese Literature Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, welcomed a visit from Ichioka High School in Osaka, Japan. The visit was warmly received at the Widya Sabha Mandala Auditorium, Prof. IB Mantra Building, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University. Sixteen student representatives from grades 11 and 12, along with two accompanying teachers from Ichioka High School, were warmly received by the Japanese Literature Study Program Coordinator, I Made Budiana, S.S., M.Hum., accompanied by five Japanese Literature students from the classes of 2023 and 2025: Fahreza Firdan, I Putu Ramaditya Pradnyana, Helen Adriela Tumanggor, Sunslino, and Jehosua Giordano.
The visit aimed to foster cultural exchange between contemporary Japanese and Indonesian cultures. The visit began with self-introductions, followed by a shared meal and friendly gathering. The event then continued with presentations from each party. Ichioka High School in Osaka, Japan, has been a school since 1901. This was their first visit, with each Ichioka student introducing their daily activities at school. The Ichioka students also presented on Japanese culture, popular sports, Japanese sweets, origami (the art of paper folding), and other cultural aspects.
The presentation continued with a presentation by a representative of the Japanese Literature study program on Indonesian language and culture. One interesting topic was slang commonly used by young people in Indonesia, such as "Bestie," "Gas," "Bucin," and the like. The event continued with performances by Ichioka students demonstrating techniques in Yakyu (baseball), Karatedo, and other sports. The official visit concluded with a group photo. Although the visit was over, the Ichioka students continued their activities after the visit by participating in Bukatsu (extracurricular activities) in the Japanese Literature study program until 7 p.m.
