The Meru Sanur Discussed Collaboration Opportunities regarding the Preservation and Utilization of Balinese Lontar

Diah Restu Swari, S.Pd., M.A. as the Secretary of Cooperation Faculty of Humanities and the Bachelor of Old Javanese Literature, Faculty of Humanities Udayana University received a visit from The Meru Sanur on Monday, June 8, 2026 to discuss collaboration opportunities in the preservation and utilization of Balinese lontar. The meeting was opened by the Coordinator of the Ancient Javanese Literature Study Program, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Suarka, M.Hum., who introduced the lecturers and the program's core competencies in philology and translation. Vice Dean I of Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Udayana University, Dr. I Gede Oenada, S.S., M.Hum., also welcomed the collaborative initiative.

During the discussion, The Meru expressed its commitment to developing a luxury wellness concept rooted in Balinese local wisdom, particularly through the utilization of lontar and the Taru Pramana tradition. Several collaboration opportunities discussed included mentoring lontar experts, field practice and student internship programs, developing lontar collections, and providing accurate cultural information to hotel guests.

Prof. Suarka welcomed The Meru plans for  collaboration and expressed the Ancient Javanese Literature Study Program's readiness to facilitate and provide assistance in the preservation and sustainable use of lontar. This meeting is expected to be the first step in synergy between academia and industry in preserving Bali's cultural heritage.
