The Faculty of Humanities of Universitas Udayana

Mandala Auditorium. A large number of 139 students and 14 teachers that

and I Made Hadi Sutresna, S.S., M.Hum.

Team.
In the opening remarks, a welcoming speech was
given by Dr. I Gusti Agung Aryani, S.S., M.Hum. as the Coordinator of the
Information and Cooperation Service Unit. She offered an expression of
gratitude in regards to the visitation of SMK Negeri 1 Surabaya to the Faculty
of Humanities. She encouraged the visiting students to keep the Faculty of
Humanities of Universitas Udayana in mind as an alternative choice for their
future studies. This remark is in line with a speech given by the Head of
Accounting Programme of the high school, who stated that the reason for this
visitation is to get to know Universitas Udayana and introduce the higher
education scene to the students, with the hope to motivate them ponder on their
future choice of major of studies. In addition, she stated that education does
not have to end in high school for the students.
Following the welcoming speeches, a presentation
regarding the Faculty of Humanities in Universitas Udayana was given by I
Made Hadi Sutresna, S.S., M.Hum. as the Head of the Media Team. He stated that
amongst eight majors in bachelor's level, one of them, the Old Javanese major,
is the only one to exist in Indonesia. In addition, four postgraduate (masters
and doctorate) majors are offered. He briefly mentioned the connection between
one of the universities from the school's origin, Surabaya, which is Universitas
Airlangga, with Universitas Udayana. According to him, the namesake King
Airlangga is the son of King Udayana. Aside from the historical point, the
universities have a long-standing relation, as Universitas Udayana originated
from a part of Universitas Airlangga before separation.“Universitas Udayana has
not yet come into existence in 1958. Our founders made the Faculty of Letters
branch of Airlangga. In 1962, we separated from (Universitas) Airlangga and
became Universitas Udayana,” he explained regarding the close relation between
the two universities. He reaffirmed that the currently visited Faculty of
Humanities is the precursor of Universitas Udayana. He encourages students to
continue their studies in Bali, especially in Universitas Udayana.
The Q&A session was met with enthusiasm.
Several questions came up. Regarding the question concerning the existence of
the Old Javanese major in Bali and its employability, I Made Hadi
Sutresna, S.S., M.Hum. as the speaker replied by stating that many words used
came from Old Javanese, and the texts are still abundant and kept well in Bali.
Some career prospects for graduates of this major include researchers and
Javanese Letters (Sastra) teachers. The next question is regarding the history
major and archaeology major. In his response, the speaker explained that the
two majors have a relation and it is very possible for the two to collaborate.
The Q&A session ended the visitation, along with documentation and souvenir.
