Handicraft Week and Traditional Games Enliven the Third Week of BERFIJAR 2026

On Friday, October 23, 2026, the Student Senate of the Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University (SMFIB Unud), continued the series of the Bersama FIB Mengajar (BERFIJAR) community service program, which has entered its third week at SDN 1 Negari. The learning focus this week was divided into two main concentrations tailored to the grade levels. Student volunteers independently guided the lower grades (grades 1, 2, and 3) in the Crafts (Prakarya) subject, while the upper grades (grades 4, 5, and 6) were focused on English material enrichment.

Following the academic session, the activity continued with a non-academic agenda titled "Handicraft Week". Through this agenda, all students from grades 1 to 6 were invited to process inorganic waste into useful items, such as arranging flowers from plastic cups and transforming used plastic bottles into pencil cases and piggy banks. This initiative was designed not only to train students' creativity, idea development, and patience but also as a tangible step to instill early ecological awareness regarding the urgency of inorganic waste management.

The excitement of this third week was made even more complete by the presence of a cultural preservation session through the introduction of traditional games. The students were invited to the field to play coconut shell clogs (bakiak kelapa), rubber band jump rope, and bamboo stilts (egrang bambu). The committee specifically selected these three games through careful safety considerations to minimize the risk of injury to the children, while simultaneously maintaining the existence and image of traditional games amidst the onslaught of the modern era. Alongside the lively games on the field, the volunteers also assisted some students in conducting stage performance rehearsals to prepare for the closing day.

The successful implementation of this third week proves the dedication of the BERFIJAR committee in presenting a learning method that balances cognitive, motoric, and cultural preservation aspects. This series of education, handicrafts, and performance preparations also served as a perfect warm-up bridge for both students and the committee leading up to the festivity of the BERFIJAR 2026 closing ceremony the following day.
